Just Coasting Lately

I have just been coasting for the past month or so. I have little motivation to do anything. I'm hoping it's just an accumulation of sad events that have happened recently. We had an unexpected death in the family, one of my best friends was seriously ill and I received bad news from another relative. This all happened within a two week period. I'm not sitting around crying or anything, but find myself strangely apathetic. I'm finding it difficult to stick to any one thing long enough to finish it.
I find myself doing things that are relatively mindless, such as making 52 pair of earrings, and spending my time tagging things for our LBS, etc. I'm being productive, but not creative, if you know what I mean. I need a jump start to get my engine running full speed again. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can think of all kinds of things I want to do, but starting them is something else again.

How about taking a class of some sort? Preferably one with more than one session or something you've never tried before. Sometimes just meeting new people and learning a new skill jump starts the happy gene.

I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered too much sadness all at once. Not fair. Just remember all us cyberfriends are sending you hugs and positive thoughts.

I'm so sorry that sad events have blocked your creativity (but completely understand), and I hope that a suggestion or two here will help jump-start its return. Mindless activities (52 earring pairs, tagging) are great though to help our minds "heal" from stress and shock -- sort of like meditation.

Is there a stitch or technique that you've been wanting to try? Or a range of colors you don't normally use? I belong to a couple beady e-mail groups, and one just issued a challenge for everyone to make something in a Cellini spiral stitch. Want to join in that challenge?

By the way, I love the ocean / cliff photo! I just got a bunch of 11/0s in those blue colors! I'm tempted to do an ocean-theme piece just from seeing that photo.

Beady hugs to you

Hi Arline

The depression you are suffering is pretty normal after the events in your life of the last few weeks.

In my experience, I have recovered in these situations by taking a serious look around the nature surrounding you. Enjoy some quiet time watching the activity of the birds and critters around you, the blooming flowers, the warm sunshine, has a healing effect on my soul. Perhaps you can find your therapy in nature too.

Be well.
Regards,
Carol

Arline,
It's no wonder your creativity has gone into hiding (for the time being). You've had too many bad things happening to you in too short a time. It'll pass, you know that. And you know what's causing your blues. A big step in the right direction.
Doing mindless things, while not terribly creative, is a good way to go.
Maybe you just need a break, who knows? Do you have a favorite book or magazine to turn to for inspiration? Maybe a mini vacation?
You'll get through this, I know you will. Until then, just hang in there.

Wish there was something magical I could tell you, dearest Arline. All any of us can do is take one day at a time.

Will be thinking of you a lot . . .

Well, I came by a bit late but I am sorry you had to have such sorrow thrown at you in multiples. My goodness, of course you don't feel like being creative. You are grieving girl - it's what we don't allow for in our culture but that doesn't makeit not real. Having read about your page with your friends faces, I'm thinking you are already moving forward but don't feel pressured to. This is a time to rest in the passing of your family and the illness of your friend. Take your time and more creativity will flow than if you rush things. Mindless activities like 52 pairs of earrings is perfect for now.
