New Project

This is the latest project I've started. I want to do a bead embroidery class using a child's handprint. I think it would make a great birthday or Mother's Day gift for Mom or Grandma. What do you think? It's a way of learning basic bead embroidery stitches and having fun too. You can add charms or any kind of special beads to make it appropriate for a specific person. I'm going to recommend students bring in their own hand outline, but will have some available to use. Can you imagine doing a newborn's hand for Mom? Or you could even use a footprint. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Arline, I think it would be a great way to introduce bead embroidery! What a fun project idea, the possibilities are unlimited!

That's what I thought, Jen. You could go almost any direction from serious to ultra playful. Just think of the look on Mom or Grandma's face when she gets it.

This is a wonderful way to introduce bead embroidery. Any time a project can be personalized makes it better for the student. I love it!

What a super idea Arline, I taught kids 7-8 yr olds to stich basic embroidery years ago when my daughter that age, it was a rewarding experience. You could offer it at the local school, & who knows what could come of that LOL. The beads might seduce a few Moms & the next thing you know you have paying students ;9

Using their own hands is so great...that's what I did with my beaded hand portraits and it makes it so much, much more personal and rewarding!
Can't wait to see it finished!

Oh what a wonderful idea.
I am going to Florida in a few weeks and I think while I am there I am going to get my little 5 year old grand daughters hand prints. There are two of them both age 5.
So before they get any bigger.

I did my hand. I loved doing it. It's kinda cool to think about it in terms of what you create and how you create it and it's how your hands are placed in the world, well that kinda thing anyway.
I'll be watching yours!
Cheers, Denise

Ok, after some thought, I'm taking your idea and am going to use it as a project with my nieces - one is 7 and one is 13. They both love my bead stash and want to work with me on something and I think this will do it! Thanks!

Thank you all.

Charlene, that is a great thing to do with your nieces. That's a great age to start them beading. Hope they enjoy it.

Reminds me of Celticat. Have you seen her beaded hands??

Celti's hands are great. One of my local beaders also does the hands like that.

I love it Arline. I have beaded my granddaughters hand - it was for me and one of my BJP pages and I have beaded up 5 inch heart shapes for each of my grandkids one year for Valentines with items and colors specific to their likes at the time. I like the idea of beading something for their parents though...

Oh I think that a newborn hand for a mom would be an exquisite idea. Your hand is coming along beautifully - I so love to look at these beading projects. I'm trying my hand at my first beaded doll. So far - so good!

Thank you, Lyn.

I think there are many possibilities for this . The biggest problem we've had so far is getting the kids to stay still long enough to outline their hands. LOL.
